Typically Fridays are my least productive day of the week. I have a hard time focusing knowing full well that the end of my day holds an entire weekend of fun and freedom. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job but like anything you do for 40+ hours a week…diminishing returns sets in at some point during the day.
So, to help spice up my quiet afternoon, I’ve been brainstorming ideas to make me more money on the side. Currently in my arsenal of extra income is articles at Helium, my job as a columnist over at Nesteggr, my exploits in Second Life, my growing portfolio of dividend-paying stocks, and a few legitimate survey sites (I’ll be keeping any referral links out of my blog for some time, all of the above are not!). Which brings me to the core of my post today.
We all like to have extra money, and living below your means is a lot easier when your means are many, right? I live comfortably below my means without any sort of side income, but I feel that much more secure when I have extra money coming in from other sources. I also know that no one likes to hear “Want more money? Work more!” I know I never did. What I’m suggesting here is utilizing the skills and talents that you have and turn them into a hobby that makes you some extra money. Flexibility is of course key. I like to write, but if I had to show up somewhere after my day-job everyday, I’m sure it would be a lot less enjoyable. As it stands, I write articles for Helium and Nesteggr when the mood strikes me, and build in Second Life when I’d like a change of pace.
I do something I really enjoy, whenever I happen to feel like it, and bring in extra income. Its a win-win situation!
What works for you?
