I know I’ve stated it before, but I’ll say it again. To me, my time is more valuable than money. I’d really prefer to get to the point where I don’t need to work full-time sooner rather than later, because I would like to have more time to myself. I’d also like to travel quite a bit as my other posts have already mentioned.
In that vein, I’ve taken into consideration a variety of options. I’d consider living on a boat, an RV, or a job that would allow travel. If me (and my girlfriend) decide that isn’t the best route to go, we would like to buy a small house in Northern Pennsylvania outright, and avoid a mortgage altogether. This is obviously going to take some time, but I’m confident that we can get there within 10 years, meaning that we would have a house and car paid for with no other debts by the age of 35.
This may sound incredibly lofty as a goal, but the area we’ve picked out has a lower cost of living than our comfy-but-expensive suburban hometown near Philadelphia, and housing costs are nowhere near astronomical. For those of you homeowners out there, I’m sorry, but I am loving the drop in housing prices and hope it keeps up for a few more years. Call me selfish as a would-be-homeowner, and I certainly don’t wish any woes on any of you!
