Money Project 2, Phase 2: Freelance Writing

It”s Monday again already…where did the weekend go!? As we know from phase 1, I brought on 2 sources of income for my freelance writing project. My first was Helium.

I went into Helium not expecting to earn anything at all. After all, the revenue split seems pretty well skewed in Helium”s favor, and I had no idea how the writing community would welcome my not-so-great writing skills. As it turns out they like some a lot more than others. Some of my articles languished at the middle of the pack, while I managed to pull off a few #1 ratings and even got some of them featured on the front page! When this happened I saw a spike in revenue for that article to about 10$. I”m not looking for one-time hits though, and so I left out those front-page revenues in lieu of monthly passive income. It isn”t much, but even if I never write again I”ll at least be getting something!

Helium Revenue:

Month of October: $1.60 (So far)

My conclusion is that Helium is for people who like to write for fun first and money second. I enjoyed writing these very short blurbs about personal finance and now have a tiny amount of passive income to show for it. It”s very hard to predict how your articles will be rated, so be sure to put some effort into contributing quality stuff. I may continue to write for Helium in the future, here and there, as we go along.

Month of October: $75.00

Nesteggr has proven to be a great opportunity. I write for the site 3x a week, try to contribute quality articles mostly about investing and various dividend-paying companies, and I get a good 75$ at the end of the month. So Money Project 2 seems to be a success as well! I have a small stream of income from Helium and a large steady payment from Nesteggr, which is not passive but still something I enjoy and can do from anywhere. Ideas for the next money project? Drop me a line!
